It could've been I needed the money
It could've been I reached the end of this rope
The people in this town, the people in the city
I felt like they owed me a little bit of hope
So I plotted and schemed to find some relief
I went to the bank that morning to steal all the money

And I said to the teller:

Here's my gun and here's my bag

And it could've been a simple transaction
I could've been in and out in three minutes
The teller pushed a button as a guard noticed her eyes
It went from bad to worse in record time
So I grabbed the bag of money and yelled "Everyone hit the ground!"
"I wanted this to be quiet, but if this is how it goes down..."

And I said to the crowd:

Then I made a run for it, saw a police man out the front door
A pretty female customer said, "You better not go that way"
Then a guard went to chase and I saw her accidentally trip him
Too bad we don't have more time

I ran up the stairs, hearing a noise from below
The swat team, the A-Team, who the hell knows?
I grabbed for hope up three long flights of stairs
Then down a long hallway with a window at the end
I broke open the fire alarm
The sprinklers went off like a thunderstorm

I wrapped the rubber hose around my waist
Lept out the shattered window as they gave chase
I escaped out that window with my bag of cash
And I said to the cops:
